A Print Broker (PB) can be a couple different things. A PB can assist you with a complicated print project, requiring several different manufacturers. They would stay on top of the project and the manufacturers to make sure the project moved along smoothly and providing you with a stress-free project through all the steps. These steps might include:

• research (finding the best manufacturers to use, based on price and quality)
• assisting with file preparation
• choosing the right paper and coating
• communicating with the manufacturer regarding all issues or problems

A PB may also be similar to a print company's in-house salesman, seeking customers for regular print services, like business cards, post cards, brochures and more. The advantage to the PB is that he is able to work with dozens of manufacturers offering exceptional prices and a wide variety of services, as he is representing all of the print companies, not just one. In this case, the salesman must offer just what their company does, whereas the print broker offers the products from several print companies.

Many small, local printers have a one or two color press, and so they try to sell these services. While there are times when these runs are acceptable, most of the time your project will look dynamically better in full color, coated and on a thicker stock.
